Last weekend, Kevin, Toggle, Wizzard and I made the long trip to Nymburk, just east of Prague for our first disc dog competition. As we are the only ones running them (to international rulings) in the UK, we had to look further afield to compete, and the ones in western europe usually have an element of freestyle, which Toggle can't do. Nymburk had 4 competitions on, based on distance/accuracy, and Kevin had made some contacts out there when he went to see the European Championships in Prague last year. Toggle was off-form the first day, and indeed most of the second day, until he jumped into the river - we should have let him in when we first arrived .
Quadruped (Distance) =5th. they did it in rounds, with a final and Toggle was beaten in his round by the person who came second. Had they done it purely on length of throws, he would have been 3rd.
Time trial = 17th
Dog Dartbee = 29th. Kevin is used to throwing 40-60m, not trying to aim for a target 20m away, so I blame Kevin's throwing!!!
Super Minidistance (toss'n'fetch) = 8th. This was two rounds, and he didn't do well in the first, then he had his dip in the river, and in the second round scored 23, which along with two other teams which scored this in the second round, was the highest score of the competition.
And then Wizzard. We had only taken him as company for Toggle, as we thought he was too young, and he never brings the disc back at home. However, after watching him play (and bringing the disc back for the first time!), and finding that he was old enough, we were allowed to enter him on the second day. He bombed out on dog dartbee - he was freaked by the line judges standing only a few metres away, and wouldn't chase the disc at all. But the Super Minidistance he was a little star. At the end of the first round he was 3rd, dropping to 6th by the end of the second round, and won a 'diploma' for best newcomer.
Sooo proud of all my boys, 4 and 2 legged ones
My videoing was err..rubbish, and I forgot to take pictures, I was enjoying myself too much, but I'll see if we can get some off the Czech website |
